Visuel non disponible

Ubuntu Linux is a free, general-purpose operating system for the PC desktop that often rivals Microsoft Windows and Macintosh OS for ease of use, security, and freedom from restrictions. Since its founding a few years ago, Ubuntu Linux has become extremely popular and has helped popularize free and open source software. This step-by-step beginner's course to Ubuntu Linux is designed to guide a user with no previous linux experience. This course, presented by VTC author Chess Griffin, also the host of "Linux Reality," a popular podcast for new Linux users, starts at the absolute beginning. Including an explanation of what Linux is, how to obtain a free copy of Ubuntu Linux, and how to boot the "live" CD to test Ubuntu Linux. You will learn configuration, customization, adding software to the system, working with the desktop environment, as well as the many included programs and features of Ubuntu Linux. * Captions not yet available on CD version.

Charles Griffin

Chess Griffin is a computer hobbyist and enthusiast whose first computer was an Apple II he received as a gift in the late 1970’s. In between playing Olympic Decathlon, Choplifter, and LodeRunner, he learned to code in assembly language on an Apple II+ and Apple IIe. During high school, he learned Pascal while taking an AP computer science class, and wrote a teacher gradebook program, which was never actually used by anybody. Other computers he has owned include the amazing Sinclair, the legendary Commodore 64, the precocious Atari 400, and the monochromatic first-generation 1984 Macintosh. He maintains his passion for computers and technology by spending too much time on geek stuff such as web design, learning php, Python, bash scripting, and working with his Linux boxes. Linux is now his primary operating system at home. Chess is best know as the host of Linux Reality. A podcast (netcast?) focusing on news and information for the linux beginner.
